With a raving bar scene, Playa del Carmen inevitably has its fair share of petty theft and robberies, which tend to happen at night. Just be sure to use the streets with bike lanes like many segments of 10th Avenue. There are laws though and that gives the police the right to stop you if you are drinking while walking around on the street.
